On behalf of Nigerians in Switzerland & Liechtenstein, the NIDO Swiss Executive Board wholeheartedly condemns the barbaric treatment meted out to innocent Nigerians who have taken to the streets to exercise their fundamental constitutional right by peacefully protesting against the flagrant violation of the law by the Nigerian Police Force. Innocent lives have been lost and our sincere condolences go out to the Families who have lost a loved one during this peaceful demonstration.
We hereby urge the Nigerian Government to constitute a nationwide police reform program as this goes beyond the disbandment of SARS.
We also urge the Nigerian Government to:
- Prosecute all perpetrators of violence act towards Innocent Nigerians with immediate effect.
- Provide compensation to the Families who have lost a loved one.
- Direct the Nigerian Police Force to put a halt to the use of live ammunition to disperse protesters.
We continue to monitor the situation whilst hoping for a lasting solution to this scourge in our country, Nigeria.
